Your Plan for a Better Future

It may be possible that you are eligible for training money but don't know it;  if you are on Employment Insurance or not, there may be a program to suit your needs.  Come in and talk to us about your career ideas, and we'll  find a program that works for you.

Below are some of the programs currently offered:

Negotiated Training Supports

Through a contract with both  the Province and the Feberal Government, the Skills Centre is able to assist eligible participants to connect to funding for training or education that will help them find and maintain employment.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Individuals must be currently on regular EI benefits or have had a regular EI claim expire within the past 3 years or have had a maternity/parental claim expire within the past 5 years and are re-entering the workforce.
  • Individuals must currently be unemployed or underemployed and have been engaged in a job search
  • This program is meant for individuals who are having trouble finding work because they have a lack of skills. It is also meant for individuals who have been out of the workforce for some time and find their skills are out of date.

This program is not designed for individuals wanting to make a career change. If a participant has existing relevant skills in their field, they are expected to make every effort to find employment with their existing skills.

Application Process

  • Make an appointment with a Skills Centre Employment Facilitator to discuss your employment needs.
  • Develop a "return-to-work" action plan that details career research and labour market information related to your career goal.
  • The Employment Facilitator will make a referral appointment for you to present your action plan to a Training Coordinator who will evaluate your training proposal and make a decision on whether to fund the training.

This program is not designed for individuals wanting to make a career change. If a participant has existing relevant skills in their field, they are expected to make every effort to find employment with their existing skills.

Please Note:
The process of applying and receiving approval for training takes time. Allow yourself 6-8 weeks before the start of your training to do the necessary research and work on your return to work action plan.

Columbia Basin Trust Training Fee Support Program

The Columbia Basin Trust Training Support Program promotes access to education or training for Columbia Basin residents. Applicants must make an appointment with an Employment Facilitator to demonstrate that the training will lead to employment. The Employment Facilitator applies for the funds on your behalf and usually takes a minimum of 10 days to receive.

A maximum grant of $800.00 may be used to pay all or part of tuition or course fees for short-term training essential to employment. Funds are paid directly to the education or training institution on behalf of the student.
